Most of us love music. While it may vary in style, it somehow talks to us. I personally like anything that's good, but what is my definition of good? I enjoy and play a lot of different styles, including what Mom and Dad's radio had going on in the house. I love to listen to their music when on a road trip for some reason. Because of their taste in music and the 60's I write a variety of songs.
Brian Wilson said song writing always starts with the chords. It was so interesting watching McCartney and Friends pull a song out of the air as the camera rolled. What Wilson said is mostly true for me but today a lot starts with beats. Some produce and sell beats to artist and songwriters and then they write over the beat.
Inspiration for want of a more descriptive word is how it starts and that can happen by chance or by work ethic. Inspiration is the fun part; finishing is the work part. Flushing the song out with all of your player buddies and capturing the performances by recording it, the icing on the cake. People have been writing and playing their music when there was no recording, such is the joy of writing a really good song. Let me know your experience with music and writing if it's your thing. I have the album Life & Times on the site; hope you find something that is meaningful. Teknowledgy has made it so we can share our music with the world as an independent artist and still control our lives and priorities in life. I have decided to join the party.
